Gregory R. Elder was born in Toledo, Ohio, on December 21, 1960. Mr. Elder’s family were among the first pioneers to settle in Wood County, Ohio, after they were awarded a substantial land grant for service in the American Revolution. His family has farmed in this
region for the past two hundred years.
Mr. Elder received a B. A. from the College of Wooster in 1983 and his J.D. from the University of Toledo in 1986.
Mr. Elder was admitted to the Ohio Bar in November, 1986, and thereafter to various federal courts, including the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Tax Court.
His professional experience includes practice with the law firm of Schuller, Meyer and Elder from 1986 to 1989, where he specialized in personal injury and products liability defense. He joined the law firm of Barkan & Robon in June 1989, as an associate and was made a partner in 1994. He practices as a trial attorney in commercial, construction and banking law, business law, personal injury and medical malpractice.
He is a member of the Toledo, Ohio State and American Bar Associations, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
He has lectured on various topics, including products liability, premises liabilty and professional malpractice.
In 1999 Mr. Elder was appointed an acting Judge in the Perrysburg Municipal Court on a part-time basis. He has served on the Perrysburg Historic Landmarks Commission, a zoning board in Perrysburg, Ohio. He serves as an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, Ohio. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Maumee Rotary Club.
Mr. Elder and his wife Karen, also an attorney, have two children. His personal interests include weight training, sailing, traveling, cooking, gardening, painting, wine and outdoor activities.
